I am happy to announce that all of my high interest rate debt is gone, paid off by working 24-7. Still have my mortgage and a sizable amount of money owed to the NY State Retirement System, but the thousands of dollars with a 12 percent annual rate is paid. I will continue to work insane hours, 9-5 at the library and 11-when ever am at the bar, until it kills me. I am so spooked about this economy that I am trying to make as much money as I can, for as long as I can.
I had a ton of friends and family contact me about the election, asking who I was going to vote for. I stayed quiet because I really don’t want to endorse any politician; they are no different then used car salesmen, a necessary evil in this world. I was happy with the results, and it will be nice that the lesser of the two evils is in power again.
One thing that scares me is that people need to stop treating this guy like the messiah, because in a year or two when he can’t fix the problems that are out of his control, or not beneficial to the ruling class of this “democracy”, shit is going to get ugly. It's not that I don't like him, I think he is a great speaker and seems like a nice guy, but I can't emphasize enough that he is still a POLITICIAN. While he may pull us farther to the left then his predecessor, his job will still be to retain power, prop up a failing empire, and continue the status quo.
I would like to say I am hopeful, but I’m not. 40 percent of the reference questions I have been getting are related to unemployment in some way. All the things I jokingly predicted with my friends are starting to become true, and I think the ship is sinking way quicker than even I realized. I hope I am wrong, maybe Obama can save the world... I just can't help but feel that is a very niave outlook on the current political and economic climate.

feeling the crunch too Scott. We're trying to do the same.. socking it away because we don't know how long we'll be OK.
My biggest problem is every time I put money away I end up needing it for something. No savings.
